Make a Meaningful Difference

As a Volunteer Visitor with JoCare, you have the opportunity to make a genuine difference in someone’s life simply by showing up, spending time together, and building a meaningful connection.

Many older people experience loneliness and social isolation, particularly those living in aged care or at home with limited social networks. A regular visit, a conversation, or a shared activity can have a powerful impact on their wellbeing. Become A Volunteer

Volunteer Visitors are matched one-on-one with an older person and visit regularly (usually weekly or fortnightly with a commitment of around 12 months (many of these connections naturally continue as meaningful friendships and stay apart of the program longterm)).

Visits may include:

  • Having a chat over a cup of tea
  • Going for a walk or sitting outside together
  • Playing a game, doing a puzzle, or sharing a hobby
  • Listening, laughing, and simply spending time together.

It’s not about doing tasks, it’s about building a relationship.

Volunteering with JoCare is rewarding in many ways:

  • Create a real connection with someone in your community
  • Make a positive difference to someone’s wellbeing
  • Learn from others and hear their stories
  • Be a part of a supportive and welcoming community
  • Gain confidence and experience

Often, volunteers say they receive just as much as they give.

JoCare delivers the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), a national Australian
Government program designed to reduce loneliness and isolation among older people.

Through this program, we connect volunteers with older people who may:

  • Have limited family or social contact
  • Experience barriers such as hearing or vision loss
  • Be part of diverse or marginalised communities

Our focus is on creating consistent, meaningful connections that support emotional
wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

Before You Start:

  • Application and screening checks
  • Volunteer training and onboarding
  • Getting to know your interests and preferences

Careful Matching:

We match based on interests, personality, location, availability, and communication needs.

Ongoing Support:

  • Regular check-ins
  • Guidance and support
  • Dedicated contact person
  • Opportunities to connect with other volunteers

Usually 1 hour per week or fortnight, with a commitment of around 12 months (many of
these connections naturally continue as meaningful friendships and stay apart of the program
long-term)

  • Ongoing visits to build a meaningful relationship
  • Flexible around your availability

If you’re looking to make a real difference in someone’s life, we’d love to hear from you.
