Become A Volunteer
Make a Meaningful Difference
As a Volunteer Visitor with JoCare, you have the opportunity to make a genuine difference in someone’s life simply by showing up, spending time together, and building a meaningful connection.
Many older people experience loneliness and social isolation, particularly those living in aged care or at home with limited social networks. A regular visit, a conversation, or a shared activity can have a powerful impact on their wellbeing. Become A Volunteer
What Do Volunteer Visitors Do?
Volunteer Visitors are matched one-on-one with an older person and visit regularly (usually weekly or fortnightly with a commitment of around 12 months (many of these connections naturally continue as meaningful friendships and stay apart of the program longterm)).
Visits may include:
- Having a chat over a cup of tea
- Going for a walk or sitting outside together
- Playing a game, doing a puzzle, or sharing a hobby
- Listening, laughing, and simply spending time together.
It’s not about doing tasks, it’s about building a relationship.
Why Become a Volunteer Visitor?
Volunteering with JoCare is rewarding in many ways:
- Create a real connection with someone in your community
- Make a positive difference to someone’s wellbeing
- Learn from others and hear their stories
- Be a part of a supportive and welcoming community
- Gain confidence and experience
Often, volunteers say they receive just as much as they give.
